Read Gen 1:1-2:3 (while we read, watch for patterns or repetition)

Ask questions:

Describe in your own words how the earth appears at the outset.

separate the waters – that means to create an entire process of rain, evaporation, condensation, etc. this is something that evolution doesn’t even attempt to answer. So how did this get there? Water itself is not alive so it cannot evolve.

Do you see a pattern to creation?

How about between the first three days and the second three days?

Day 1-light

Day 2-air and water

Day 3-land and vegetation

Day 4-lights and stars

Day 5-birds and fish

DAY6- animals and humankind

What correspondence do you see between the two sets of days? 

What does this pattern tell you about God and His creation?

What do you think God wants us to learn about Himself, the world, or ourselves from each of the following repeated phrases? a. 

“And God said, ‘Let . . .’ And it was so.”

How is God creating? What comes out of your mouth when you speak?

Read John 1:1 

What is the “Word?”

-Notice the word “kind“ it is repeated, so it must be important.

What other word is repeated a lot?

Good

What does “good“ mean?

Is it morally good? Yes, when God created everything there was no sin in it.

Is it beautiful and pleasant to the eyes? Yes you don’t have to stare at the Grand Canyon or a sunset for long to realize that the work of creation is beautiful.

Is it usable? Yes when God created something and called it good, he was saying it was doing well at performing its intended purpose and design.

What purposes or commands did God give to . . . the sun and moon (see 1:16-18)?

the animals (see 1:22,26)? 

men and women (see 1:28)? 

plants (see 1:29-30)? 

What can we learn about our world from the purposes God assigned to each part of His creation?

5. In summary, what does 1:1–2:3 reveal about God’s nature and character?

Romans 1:20-21, 

How should humans respond to God’s revelation of Himself in creation? 

What happens to those who don’t respond like this (see Romans 1:21-32)? 

What do these observations imply for your life?
