How old is the Earth?
What is a biblical worldview?
It is under attack. Overtime it has less weight in the world.
Give example of gay marriage
ReGenesis 3:1
We learned that Satan is getting eve to question God‘s word, so she would doubt God‘s word, so she would ultimately reject God‘s word.
These methods that Satan used on Eve are the same methods that he uses on us today.
He wants to shake our foundation. Without a good foundation, everything will crumble.
Why?
He is attacking the Bibles history. Because if the history can’t be trusted, why would you trust anything that said about Jesus?
He does this by attacking the education system over multiple generations. Evolution, big bang, Noah’s flood, age of the earth
College cess pool of evil.
What I’m about to talk about is not my research. I didn’t go through the Bible and look at every one of these Hebrew words and translate it, etc. but I am relaying what I’ve learned from a source that I trust. I believe it because it makes logical sense, and I believe it because it makes supernatural sense.
Think about the last two years, it is possible to directly lie to the public, and half of them will believe it right away. The majority will later.
Plus you control the media and the education system, and overtime you can get nearly everybody to believe it.
If you find a fossil, a bone in the dirt, what do you actually know about it?
You know that something died.
When do you find fossils, are they in the past or in the present?
You find them in the present.
So after you know that something died, everything else is assumptions. As educated assumptions as you can make.
So how can two people with the exact same evidence have totally different assumptions?
Both sides have the same fossils, rock layers, light from stars, dust on the moon, etc. Then they make assumptions based on their foundation, or their worldview. Either man’s word versus God‘s word.
So this is the foundation for tonight. Remember that everything goes back to God‘s word versus Van‘s word.
So with that, the first question. Why would God create a world that is filled with death, distraction, disease, cancer, etc.?
The answer is he did not.
Look up genesis 1:31
Look up genesis 2:16-17
It’s very important to remember the order. God made it good, we sinned, and brought in death.
So all of that was to set up this one question.
So this piece of truth is foundational to the next question, which is a fun one.
How old is the earth?
Take survey
If you follow the Bible it states that the earth was created in six days approximately 6000 years ago.
Does it say exactly 6000 years? No
But you can add up all the genealogies which goes back to about 4000 BC. And then it’s 2000 years roughly since Jesus was here.
– genealogy timetable –
From Adam to Abraham is about 2000 years
From Abraham to Jesus is about 2000 years
From Jesus till now is about 2000 years
So the next question that comes from skeptics is how do you know the creation days are 24 hour days? There’s a verse that says a day is like 1000 years to God and 1000 years like a day.
So, we have to put the word “day” into context.
So when in the Old Testament does the word day mean a 24 hour day?
Because the word day itself can have several meanings.
Look at this one sentence, back in my Father’s Day it took 10 days to drive across America during the day.
That’s three different uses for the word day. So you must put it into context for it to make sense.
So when does the word day mean a 24 hour period in the Old Testament?
Anytime just one of these rules is met, it means a 24 hour period in the Old Testament.
When they say day plus a number in plural or singular, which happens 410 times. Example: the first day, the second day etc.
When they say evening and morning together without Day, which happens 38 times.
When they say evening or morning with a day, which happens 23 times.
When they say night with Day, 52 times.
You only need to meet one of these rules in the old testament for it to always mean a 24 hour.
So, how is it written in the creation story?
Genesis 1;5, 1:8, 13, 19, 23, 31.
Read those
For every day of creation it Goes
Evening, morning, number, day
Evening, morning, number, day
It is like contextual overkill. As if God knew that someday we would be discussing this he made it crystal clear. They met 3-4 of the rules that they only needed to meet once.
Not only that, there are several Hebrew words that mean an indefinite amount of time, or a time., But he did not use any of those. He used the word Yom which is the only Hebrew word that means a solar day.
This is confirmed throughout the Bible.
Exodus 20:11
Noticed the word “all“
So the next question is, so what?
Why shouldn’t Christians believe in millions of years?
There are many reasons.
The contextual text of the Bible does not allow to try and squeeze in millions of years.
So “contextually“ the Bible does not allow for millions of years
But even more importantly, “theologically“ it does not allow for millions of years.
Can anyone guess or do you know why millions of years does not fit “theologically?”
The Bible makes it clear that sin of man is what caused death. If you believe in millions of years, death had to come before sin.
Back in genesis, before the sin, Adam and eve and all the animals eat plants. They were vegetarian. There was no meat eating, because there was no death.
Not until genesis 9:3, after the flood, does God say that he has given all things for food.
So the biblical worldview is:
God created everything good
Man sinned, which brought death to the world
There was a massive flood which caused all the rock layers and fossils, and it happened about 6000 years ago.
(Much more on the flood in the coming weeks)
Man’s worldview is that before man ever existed there were millions and millions of years worth of evolution and death and mutations and gradual progression of simple to complicated living organisms.
There are lots of fossils of animals eating each other. So you can’t have fossils millions of years old long before man was created, and still have a biblical worldview.
There are thorns in the fossil record. The Bible is clear that thorns came after man sin.
Why is it important? Because it was a very symbol of the curse that God put on the earth.
If you try to put millions of years into the biblical account, you are trying to meld a biblical worldview and man’s worldview.
No matter what you call it, gap theory, thousand years is a day, any theory other than the actual biblical story places death before man’s creation.
If that is true,
Then death was not the consequence of sin.
…and Jesus death is not a payment for the sin debt.
And Jesus is not necessary…
So now, why is the age of the earth so important?
This is just one example of trying to fit secular worldview into the Bible. In other words it goes back to genesis three: one Satan tried to question God‘s word, which introduces doubt, which introduces rebellion.
Bonus:
So what about radiometric dating, carbon dating, isotope dating, etc.?
None of that can be used to prove the age of the earth. You cannot replicate these experiments, because you cannot replicate millions of years in a laboratory.
